Tromso's Polaria is receiving an extension which will include a bigger aquarium and a much needed new seal pool. The current seal pool is entirely inside with no natural light, the proposed new pool will be three times bigger with both indoor and outdoor access for the seals.

Finally, we are going to expand! - Polaria

That´s a great new, although I´d prefer if the new pool would have a more "natural" look. Is known if the actual pool will be part of the new seal enclosure, or will be transformed in an aquarium? Because I visited Polaria few weeks ago and the seal pool seemed to take up all the width of the building, and in fact on those illustrations don´t looks bigger than the actual one. The only way I can imagine they can make it three times bigger without expand the building, is to make it much more deeper.

It seems like they are extending the building and the new seal pool will be located in the new extension.

'The aquarium will also be expanded, and a brand new extension will be built at the back of the house. This is where our seals will move, into a brand new seal pool.'

Yes, but if the illustrations on the website are accurate, the building expansion is only that area over the last section of the actual aquarium. Will be higher, but not bigger on area.

I see what you mean. Being deeper might make up some of the increased water volume but hopefully the pool will also have a larger surface area somehow.
