Are mice and rats dependent on humans?

    Going off on a bit of a tangent / reframing the question here but there are certainly quite a few species of rodents that are sadly now conservation dependent on humans.

    The "vovotsa" / Malagasy giant jumping rat is one of these that comes immediately to mind.

    I think I mentioned this in my first post on the subject, but yeah unfortunately there are conservation dependent species. I think that's very different from what @GiratinaIsGod originally meant, though.

    As a side, I wish more zoos would focus on the giant jumping rat...

    Oh right , didn't see that. Yes I know he meant it in a different way but I thought I'd mention the conservation angle to the question too as it is quite interesting to think that there are just as many rodents that are dependent on us but in a totally different sense :p.

    It's an interesting topic you're discussing. While it's true that mice and rats have adapted to live in close proximity to humans over time, I wouldn't say they're completely dependent on us for survival.
