When was the last offspring born?
    • mstickmanp
The last one was born in September of 2007 and the calf was a male.

Any possibility to receive a new female from other zoos?
    • Michael
There are currently no unrelated females anywhere. All of the captive animals came from the same source, a pair at LA. There are 2 animals that are not related in Colombia, but they are not in a breeding situation and are still to young to breed. The pair at Cali Zoo came from LA.

Have LA found them particularly harder to care for than their congeners?
    • Michael
No, this species has been fairly easy to care for. It took a while to get them on a good diet.

Then better inbreeding than no breeding!
    • DavidBrown
Why do you think that inbreeding is acceptable in the 21st century? This practice has no place in modern zoo-keeping.

This is another animal where someone has to decide what to do with the animals held in captivity, because as they stand they are not self-supporting.

Whether they should go back to a centre in a host-range country, or more animals brought in from the wild is a moot point. What do others think?
